Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the lost 0.42%, while the index fell 0.50%.
The best performers of the session on the were Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:), which rose 2.21% or 149.20 points to trade at 6,910.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:) added 1.99% or 10.90 points to end at 558.65 and Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:) was up 1.76% or 85.80 points to 4,950.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:), which fell 2.07% or 5.70 points to trade at 270.05 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:) declined 1.86% or 23.00 points to end at 1,213.10 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:) was down 1.74% or 69.20 points to 3,919.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:) which rose 2.26% to 6,916.00, NTPC Ltd (BO:) which was up 1.32% to settle at 329.25 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:) which gained 1.30% to close at 3,667.00.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:) which was down 2.07% to 270.00 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:) which lost 1.99% to settle at 1,211.15 and Wipro Ltd (BO:) which was down 1.49% to 479.80 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1536 to 679 and 39 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2457 fell and 1357 advanced, while 122 ended unchanged.
The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.91% to 12.82.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.82% or 17.75 to $2,194.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.38% or 0.31 to hit $81.64 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.37% or 0.32 to trade at $85.76 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.15% to 83.29, while EUR/INR rose 0.08% to 90.46.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 103.73.
