It’s essential to invest in a quality mattress, according to Melanie Coddington, interior designer and founder of Coddington Design.
There are many mattress options available today — memory foam, innerspring, latex, hybrid — so find the one that meets your comfort, support, and durability preferences.
Considering we spend approximately a third of our lives sleeping, the designer said, it’s worth the splurge.

To bring the look and feel of your bed to the next level, Coddington recommended experimenting with different textures.
“Incorporating materials like velvet, satin, or mohair can instantly elevate the look and feel of your bed, adding depth and visual interest,” she told BI.

Adding a headboard to your existing bed frame is a simple but quick way to upgrade your bed, according to Heather Knight-Willcock, interior designer with ShopGoodwill.com.
“Look for one with soft upholstery or luxe materials like velvet or leather,” she said.
If you’re on a budget, you can always DIY a headboard or find a used one at a thrift store.

To make your bed more luxurious, it’s essential to invest in high-quality linens, according to Manuella Moreira, principal and founder of Manuella Moreira Interiors.
Consider choosing fabrics like silk or Egyptian cotton that are prized for their exceptional softness and long-lasting quality.
“These fabrics not only feel amazing against your skin but also add a touch of elegance to your bed,” the designer told BI.
Opt for a color scheme that complements your bedroom decor.

Selecting a color scheme that complements your bedroom decor is a crucial step in creating a harmonious ambiance, according to Moreira.
“My favorite approach is a monochromatic color scheme, using different shades and tones of the same color,” the designer told BI. “This creates a sophisticated and cohesive look, adding depth and visual interest to the bed.”
Set the mood with soft bedside lighting.

To create a warmer mood, Coddington recommended adding bedside lamps.
“This will create a cozy ambiance and provide soft, flattering layers of lighting for reading or relaxing in bed,” the designer told BI.
Consider a wall sconce to save space on your nightstand, she recommended, and use dimmers where possible.
Consider a canopy or bed drapes for an elegant touch.

Moreira recommended adding a canopy or bed drapes to your bed for a touch of elegance and sophistication.
“Canopies and drapes have long been associated with luxury and create a dreamy and romantic atmosphere in the bedroom,” the designer said.
A canopy can instantly transform your bed into a cozy and intimate space, adding height and drama to the room.
Add a soft and plush area rug underneath or alongside your bed.

For added texture and coziness, consider investing in a soft area rug under or next to your bed, Knight-Willcock said.
“It’s like giving your feet a little hug every time you step out of bed,” the designer told BI. “Look for thick-pile rugs with soft textures like shag or faux fur for that extra cozy factor.”
Distinct layers can offer a more inviting look.

Moreira and Coddington both recommended incorporating layers into your bedding for added warmth and a more welcoming atmosphere.
A plush duvet, quilt or coverlet, decorative pillows, and a throw blanket all work well for this purpose, according to Coddington.
“When layering the duvet and coverlet, consider folding them back a bit at the head of the bed to showcase any decorative elements or pillows,” Moreira said. “This gives your bed a tailored and inviting appearance.”
Use decorative pillows and shams to add depth and texture.

“Enhance the luxurious and inviting look of your bed by incorporating decorative pillows and shams,” Moreira told BI.
These stylish accessories add depth and texture, elevating the overall aesthetic of your sleeping space. Get creative by mixing sizes, shapes, and textures to create visual interest and personalization.
