United Parcel Service (NYSE:UPS) avoided a potential strike in Louisville after the company reinstated about 35 recently organized workers on Friday that were previously laid off shortly after they organized with the union. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters confirmed that the swift reinstatement of the workers stops any potential labor action.
The Teamsters has claimed UPS is denying collective bargaining rights to members in Louisville at its Centennial Hub facility, and had threatened to respond by filing unfair labor practice charges and potentially striking. UPS (UPS) said in it original statement on the issue that a small number of employees were being laid off at its Louisville Centennial Hub as it matches staffing with business needs.
Shares of UPS (UPS) moved up 0.15% in premarket trading on Monday and are up almost 10% over the last six weeks.
