The International Monetary Fund on Sunday will begin to discuss policy goals with Ukrainian government officials, the fund’s representative in the country said.
“An IMF team, led by Uma Ramakrishnan, deputy director of the fund’s European department, starts meetings today in Kyiv with the Ukrainian authorities and other stakeholders,” Vahram Stepanyan said in a statement.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has strained its economy. Ukraine’s government has depended on aid from other countries for social and humanitarian programs.
The IMF last week said its mission began a second evaluation of Ukraine’s $15.6 billion multiyear loan program. The project is part of a $115 billion worldwide package to support the country’s economy as the war rages on.
“The high-level engagement will focus on policy goals and challenges in the context of Ukraine’s program supported by the IMF Extended Fund Facility (EFF) Arrangement,” the statement said.
